A Guide to Keystone’s Family Friendly Spin on Oktoberfest Saturday, Sept. 2nd

Roll out the barrel and celebrate the arrival of the autumn season with Keystone’s Oktoberfest taking place Saturday, Sept. 2nd in the River Run Village.

Featuring the New Belgium Beer Garden, a new Stein Hoisting Competition, the Kidtopia KidsZone, German fare and Oompah Bands – you’ll want to spend your Labor Day Weekend at Keystone Resort.

Keystone’s 4th Annual Oktoberfest event returns to River Run Village this Labor Day Weekend on Saturday, Sept. 2 with the return of the Das Bier Burner 5K – raising money for SOS Outreach, seasonal craft beers from New Belgium Brewery, free music from the Summit Concert Band and Those Austrian Guys along with traditional German dance performances from the Edelweiss Schuhplattlers!  Keystone’s spin on Oktoberfest caters to the entire family.  While adults enjoy New Belgium’s seasonal craft offerings from the beer garden the littlest revelers will be served up a healthy dose of face painting, kid’s crafts and a bounce house. There will be German fare o-plenty with Keystone’s restaurants dishing up plates of Bavarian Sausage Sliders, German Dumplings, Braised Sauerbraten Sandwiches and more!  Work up your appetite with the fourth year of the Das Bier Burner 5K fun run which is expected to attract lederhosen-wearing runners and maybe even a dirndl-clad runner or two. The best part? The trophy for crossing the finish line is a stein of Oktoberfest bier for runners 21 and over with a valid ID, of course. Costumes are encourage and one contestant will be awarded with a Best Costume Prize! Plus the race benefits SOS Outreach, a youth development non-profit that uses year-round, outdoor sports to engage under-served students in long-term mentor based relationships.

In the afternoon, Keystone’s Oktoberfest kicks up its heels and raises its stein with Colorado-brewed beers including the popular new release from New Belgium, Fat Tire Belgian White to seasonal brews like the Voodoo Atomic Pumpkin.  Ten varieties of beer in all will be available at the New Belgium beer garden in addition to craft cocktails and wine.  The River Run stage will be its own party with the Summit Concert Band kicking off the festival along with local favorite, Those Austrian Guys from 1PM to 6PM. Prost! New this year, a Stein Hoisting contest for those who are feeling a bit competitive has been added to the lineup.  Ten contestants will test their strength and hold a stein of beer for as long as their arm will allow. A liter stein is filled to the brim with liquid and held by a straight ninety degree (90°) arm in front of entrant, parallel to the floor with elbows locked.  Once the entrant’s elbow bends or spills/drops the stein, that person is out of the contest.  Last one to make it the longest wins!

A 2017 commemorative Oktoberfest stein is $35 and includes three beers from New Belgium.

Admission to the event is free with free parking in the River Run Village parking lots. Food and drinks are available at a la carte prices.   Individual pints of beer are available for $7.

As an added bonus on Saturday, Sept. 2, the River Run Village stores and shops are getting in the spirit and having an Oktoberfest Tent Sale from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. that day.

We’ll Prost to that.
