15 WAYS TO HAVE AN UNFORGETTABLE TIME AT KEYSTONE’S MOUNTAIN TOWN MUSIC FESTIVAL
CELEBRATE ALL THINGS COLORADO
Colorado is more than a state, it’s a feeling, and Keystone’s Mountain Town Music Festival represents our incredible state in more ways than we can count. By attending this FREE one-day event, you are not only earning more local Coloradoan points; you are guaranteed to embrace all that Colorado summers have to offer.
Here are 15 tips from locals to ensure you have the most fantastic weekend at Mountain Town Music Festival in Keystone, CO.
#1 RESEARCH AND BUY FROM LOCAL FARMERS
Colorado is home to the mountains, our capitol Denver and a lot of beautiful farmland. We are famous for our Palisade Peaches and known for our Olathe Sweet Corn. So, how could this event feature “all things Colorado” without including local produce?
The incredible Conner Farms, located in Delta, Colorado, will be featured at Mountain Town Music Festival. They specialize in cherries, peaches, apples, and apricots and say they “dabble” in lavender with over 600 lavender plants. You will be able to purchase all their tasty fruit at the festival!
They are just one of many local Colorado farms to check out, research ones in your area and support local Colorado agriculture today.
#2 LEARN ALL YOU CAN ABOUT PALISADE PEACHES
Peaches will be the star of this festival, and we can’t say we are disappointed. While peaches are grown throughout Colorado, Palisade is known for producing some of the best fruit in North America. Since the festival will be on August 17th, there will be early season cling peaches and freestones available. Cling peaches stick to the pit but are juicy and delicious while the pit of freestone peaches plops right out when they are ripe.
#3 FIGURE OUT THE BEST WAY TO EAT YOUR OLATHE SWEET CORN
Among peaches, Olathe Sweet Corn will be a big hit at the festival this year. There can be over 30 million ears of sweet corn produced in Colorado, and each piece of corn is unique in color and variety but all delicious. Moreover, sources from The Denver , say that ancestors have searched Colorado for ancient corn varieties, so make sure you find the real thing.
Now, onto your corn eating style… well, that’s up to you! There’s the typewriter (from left to right) or the circular corn style, or you can go classy and use corn holders. Whichever way you choose, make sure to try all the different flavor combinations the booths will be offering up!
#4 GET YOUR KIDS READY TO PLANT A FLOWERPOT
Per usual, Keystone Festivals has thought of a fun and creative activity for your kids as well as planned a day full of food, drinks, and music for the adults. At Kidtopia, the children will have an opportunity to get their faces painted, play outside and then, paint and plant a sunflower. Not only will they be entertained and using their creativity, but the flowerpot will also be a keepsake you can have for years to come.
#5 MEMORIZE AT LEAST 5 OF THE STRUMBELLAS SONGS
The Strumbellas, a rock band from Canada, offer up peppy, fun dance music that are described as indie rock meets alternative country and pop. Their new single, Salvation, debuted in April and is a song to put on your memorization list! It’s not the only great song of theirs, but it is a great place to start.
Don’t forget the amazing The Brothers Comatose , Jared and the Mill and Josh Hoyer & Soul Colossa will also be playing at the event.
Check out the Mountain Town schedule, so you don’t miss your favorite band!
#6 FIND A PLACE TO CRASH IN THE ROCKY MOUNTAINS
Spending the weekend in the mountains is the best way to fully enjoy the festival and relax the rest of the time you’re up here. August is prime summer season in Dillon and Breckenridge, just minutes away from Keystone’s River Run Village where the festival is held.
There are tons of adventure options available to explore in Summit County, “Colorado’s Playground.” Moreover, if you book with Keystone Resort, you will receive exclusive benefits for Mountain Town Music Festival! Check it out online or call (855) 594-2872.
#7 RESEARCH THE SURROUNDING ACTIVITIES
One of the best feelings is balancing a Saturday of music and fun with some activity and exploration. There is hiking and mountain biking right at the base of Keystone Resort and in the surrounding mountains, plenty of options to explore. You can take a short trip over to Breckenridge for a night out on the town or stick in Dillon and head out on Lake Dillon or take a yoga class with nearby Keystone Lodge and Spa. The opportunities are endless, so start planning!
#8 LEAVE YOUR PUP AT HOME
However, know how much we love them! Due to the amount of dancing, the crown size and outdoor food sales, Fido isn’t invited. Humans of all ages are welcome, however!
#9 VOLUNTEER TO HELP
Did you know that all of Keystone Festivals are managed by the Keystone Neighbourhood Company, a not-for-profit organization? That means that volunteers are crucial to creating an unforgettable festival experience. They need all they help they can get, and there are fun opportunities for you to help. Contact Erin Bissette, their Special Events Coordinator for more info!
#10 EXPLORE LOCAL BUSINESSES NEAR KEYSTONE
Colorado supports local businesses. We are so thankful for all the local businesses that are supported and loved all over the state, and the mountain community is no exception from that! There is a plethora of local restaurants to choose from, excellent shopping on main street Frisco, main street Breckenridge, and in the River Run Village itself. Of course, there are also a few great breweries around town that are worth checking out post-Mountain Town.
At the festival, there will be a lot of Colorado vendors at the festival so make sure to check them out as well: Airlounj, Be Hippy, Climax Jerky, Drift & Amble, Filosophy and Freelosophy, Herbal Infusions, Rocky Mountain Outback Hats, and Sogno Toscano Olive Oil Boutique.
#11 STOP BY THE BEER GARDEN
As true Coloradoans, local beer is key to any weekend activities. Stop by the Beer Garden at the event, sponsored by Fort Collin’s favorite brewery, New Belgium Brewing Co. They have a new passion fruit Kolsch that is a light, fruity summer beer perfect for a day outside in addition to their standby Fat Tire and Voodoo Ranger IPA. Honestly, you can’t go wrong no matter what beer you choose.
#12 SAVE ROOM FOR ALL THE TASTY FOOD
We recommend eating a small, but hearty, breakfast before you head to Mountain Town Music. No coolers or outside alcohol are allowed, so buy as many food tickets as you can! Tickets are equal to $1, and the food booths have some fantastic local dishes for you to try.
Some examples of peach-inspired dishes that have been served at the event: Grilled Brown Sugar Peaches with a Bourbon Glaze, Maple Glazed Pork Belly with Peach Habanero Chutney and Arugula Salad, Summer Corn Chowder made with Summer Veggies and Olathe Sweet Corn, BBQ Pork Slider with a Peach BBQ Sauce and much more!
#13 END YOUR MOUNTAIN WEEKEND WITH ANOTHER FESTIVAL
Mountain Town is a free one-day event happening on Saturday, August 17th. That leaves a whole other day for you to explore Summit County and all it has to offer. Check out the 2019 Breckenridge International Festival of the Arts in nearby Breckenridge and round out your weekend of food and music with some art.
